Malick Ndiaye
El Hadji Malick Ndiaye studied Modern Languages at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, specializing in Aesthetics with a focus on the semiotics of the image. His research on Senegalese sculptor Ousmane Sow earned him a fellowship at the National Institute of Art History (INHA) in Paris, after which he pursued a PhD in Art History at the University of Rennes II.
After defending his thesis on The Stakes of the Postcolonial Critical Debate, he joined the French National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INP) in Paris, graduating in 2011 with an international diploma in Heritage Studies. His work at INP, combined with his research on contemporary art, led him to become a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Excellence Creation, Arts, and Heritage (Labex CAP).
Returning to Senegal, he was recruited by the Fundamental Institute of Black Africa (IFAN) at Cheikh Anta Diop University, which oversees three museums. In 2016, El Hadji Malick Ndiaye was appointed Director of the Théodore Monod Museum of African Art, where he developed exhibition and research projects blending contemporary art and historical heritage. The museum, deeply tied to colonization and ethnography, became a space for reinterpreting knowledge through exhibitions, artist residencies, and academic programs.
In January 2021, as Head of the Museums Department, he began integrating these initiatives into a broader strategy to revitalize the three museums under his supervision.
