Joseph Rustom


Joseph Rustom is a Lebanese conservation architect and Associate Professor at the School of Architecture of the Saint Joseph University in Beirut (USJ). He has twenty years of experience in the field of cultural heritage conservation. He holds a PhD in Urban Studies from the Brandenburg Technical University (Germany), two M.A. degrees in heritage conservation and urban archaeology from France. Additionally, he holds an MBA in Higher Education Management from University College London (UCL). He has served as research associate at prestigious German institutions such as the DAAD, the Forum Transregionale Studien, and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and his work has been exhibited at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Kraftwerk Berlin. His recent publications explore the connections between architecture, displacement, and identity building in Lebanon. Furthermore, he has organized several architectural design competitions, including the competition for the Open Storage of the Saradar Collection. From 2012 to 2022, he was the Director of Studies at the Lebanese Academy for Fine Arts (ALBA), and he currently serves as the Director of the Oriental Library at USJ.
